is the only community nonprofit organization which provides grassroots support
services to breast and ovarian cancer patients and their families through counseling,
educational forums and advocacy services in Queens, and throughout New York
City.
SHAREing & CAREing is a non-profit
community-based organization in Queens that provides breast health outreach,
education, support and advocacy services for medically under-served and
uninsured women. We heighten awareness about the importance of early
detection, self-breast examination and mammography screening. The founder
and Executive Board members of SHAREing & CAREing are breast cancer survivors
and first generation Americans who are bilingual and represent the multi-ethnic
fabric of communities in Queens. For more than 10 years, SHAREing &
CAREing has partnered with local physicians and hospitals to offer heath forums
and mammography, screening, and provided unique counseling and culturally sensitive
support services for women seeking information, and for those diagnosed with
breast cancer. All of our services are free of charge.
Until a cure can be found for Breast Cancer, early diagnosis is one of the
best weapons that we have to combat this horrific disease. Our objective
is to provide support services to all victims of breast and ovarian cancer and
their families. This is accomplished through linkages with community
health providers, lectures, and educational forums in the community. Our
purpose as advocates is to dramatically improve medical services to all women
through early detection, treatment and information about living with the effects
of breast cancer regardless of the economic strata.
SHAREing & CAREing is focused on all women's
health issues providing health symposiums to educate and to take preventive
actions for their well-being. The population that we serve begins at high
school through senior years. SHAREing & CAREing's activities include:
individual advocacy, referrals, essential services, support groups, educational
forums, stress reduction workshops, and pharmaceutical assistance.
Astoria/Queens serves a multicultural population; subsequently our services are
in multiple languages: English, Spanish, Greek, Ukrainian, and Italian.
